Wee Forest Folk Miniatures S-03 - Elijah Rathbone Scrimshaw Sailor

Elijah Rathbone, the knot tier, is the third in a series of 14 pieces comprising the Wee Forest Folk Peapod Crew. This series of tiny sailors in the form of mice was created in both color and scrimshaw style, scrimshaw referring to the carvings created by whalers using whalebone, teeth, or tusks (none of which were used to create these miniature figurines). This scrimshaw style sailor is the color of etched ivory and sits upon a half barrel tying a knot (a very important skill for any sailor to perfect). Elijah, like all the other members of the Peapod crew, has a ceramic tail which is a unique feature since most Wee Forest Folk mice have a leather tail. These Wee Sea Folk are delightful! A fun gift for any mariner. Adorable under a tiny glass cloche on a bookshelf at your beach house. Wouldn’t it be fun to collect them all?! Sculpted and initialed by Willy Petersen. The Petersen Family have been crafting Wee Forest Folk exquisite miniatures since 1972 right here in the USA. A Wee Forest Folk figurine begins as an original clay piece which is hand sculpted by one of three sculptors in the Petersen family. The finished sculpture is molded and hand cast at the "mouse factory" in Carlisle, MA. Carefully selected artists flawlessly paint each one by hand bringing to life a sweet little mouse personality.
