Kicksledding is pure joy, and turns nearly all sledders into mountain boys and girls. Gliding along on hard-packed snow or ice seems effortless (though it's actually good exercise), and you get to take your sweetheart or young one along too. As if that weren't good enough, kicksledding is also excellent aerobic exercise and a fantastic way to get a workout in the course of routine daily activities!
Snowpacked streets, back roads, and well-used snowmobile trails are perfect for kicksledding, particularly those with a gentle grade. A long, plowed driveway curling down a hillside - aaah. It's not very tough to kicksled, either.
Mountain Boy kicksleds are an artistic interpretation of a traditional, time-tested Nordic design. The sled body is made of American white ash. The comfortable slatted seat is made from many different hardwoods. Screws are stainless steel, and connecting bolts are high-grade anodized steel. The runners are highly flexible tempered steel, with polished and waxed edges. Rings are welded to the front of each runner, making it simple to attach a bridle and tugline for dogsledding. Multiple coats of UV-resistant, lead-free finish mean the sled can be left outside for extended periods without damage. The handle on each sled is a specially chosen native willow branch, hand-carved for a perfect fit and polished to show its natural beauty. No two handles are alike, and each has its own unique look and feel.
Because each kicksled is a one-of-a-kind work, each is signed and numbered on the bottom by the sledmaker.
The Silverton Kicksled fits one child or adult, and includes an elastic pocket behind the seat that fits a sweater or lunchbox. (You can choose from two types of kicksled: the classic Silverton Kicksled, which seats one adult or child and the unique Double Kicksled, which seats two children and has bright red hand rails.)
Folding down the kicksled is easy, and reduces the height of the sled from 36" to 7", just right for putting it on top of your car or into the attic for summer storage.

Each Mountain Boy Sled is made of fine figured woods in Silverton, Colorado.
Country of Origin Freedom Rating (on a scale of 1 – 7)*: 1.0 - Free
* For a complete description of the Freedom Rating listed above, please refer to Frequently Asked Questions in our Customer Service section.
Environmental Considerations:
Mountain Boy Sledworks is working hard to minimize the impact of all of their operations on the environment. Some key elements include:
- Using only frustration-free, recycled cardboard packaging
- Choosing only fast-growing, common, sustainable hardwoods such as birch, willow and maple
- Ensuring that every part of the wood is used. Smaller pieces are turned into kicksled slats or Christmas ornaments, and the smallest bits end up in our woodstove or in the wood-drying kiln.
- Just as important, making products that last! It makes sense to buy a sled that will last for years, rather than buying a cheaper sled that won't last nearly as long.
Manufacturer Suggested Age Range: Ages 3 to Adult
All Mountain Boy Sleds are made with non-toxic finishes, and are regularly tested to ensure that they are lead-free. Wood dyes are used to bring out the color and figure of the wood, and then a clear lacquer or polyurethane on top. Four coats of lacquer or three coats of polyurethane create a marine-grade finish. All Mountain Boy products are independently tested to make sure they meet child safety standards, and they do.
The Silverton Kicksled meets all ASTM and USC child safety criteria. The finish is lead-free.
